From the beginning of July, General VRS Radislav Krstic increasingly took responsibility for command of the Drina Corps. He was there from July 6th to at least July 9th, while Mladic had not yet arrived, and from a forward command center managed operation "Krivaja 95."
The Hague Tribunal Trial Chamber concluded that Krstic must have known VRS military actions against Srebrenica were calculated to spark a humanitarian crisis that would later lead to the elimination of the enclave. Thus he played a leading role in the events that would terrorize the inhabitants of Srebrenica into fleeing the town for their lives to Potocari and lay the ground for the crimes that would follow. From his observation post at the forward command center, Krstic was able to freely see the effects of the shelling on the frightened inhabitants of Srebrenica.
